Genshin Impact turned exploration into the point of the game: gliding off a ridge, climbing a cliff you probably shouldn’t, chasing a glowing speck across a valley just to see what it is. The catch is a multi-gigabyte install and a gacha economy wrapped around it. We wanted the glide-climb-explore feeling without either, so we built Skyshard, a small original 3D world you can fly into right now, free, with nothing to install.

How to play
On a phone, drag the joystick in the bottom-left corner to move and use the round button on the right to jump, climb steep ground, or glide once you’re airborne (hold it while falling to open your wings). The smaller button next to it fires a short elemental burst at the crystal guardian near the island’s peak. On a keyboard, use WASD or the arrow keys to move, hold Space to jump, climb, or glide, and press F to burst.
Every day resets the island’s layout: a new set of glowing motes and sky chests spawns across the same floating isle, and the guardian wakes back up if you calmed it the day before. Collect everything to see your score, or tap “Finish run” anytime to bank your progress. Your best score and streak are saved on your device only. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to Genshin Impact
Skyshard keeps the part of Genshin Impact we actually load the game for: a real third-person camera, a small open world with hills to climb and a lake to skirt, gliding off high ground, and a short elemental attack that feels good to land. The floating island is ours, drawn entirely in code with a raw WebGL renderer, but the traversal loop, walk, climb, glide, repeat, is the same rhythm.
Everything else is deliberately gone. There is no gacha, no character roster, no five-star pity counter, no story, no co-op, and no 35GB install. Genshin Impact is a genuine RPG with years of patches, voice acting, and an economy built around pulling for characters; Skyshard is a five-minute sandbox with zero systems attached to spending money, because we’re not willing to build a paid-randomization mechanic into a browser toy.
Use Skyshard for a quick glide session between other things, on a machine where you can’t install a 100GB game, or as a taste of the traversal feel before you commit to downloading the real thing.
